Déjà Vu Knits Compass Rose Comforts Scarf and Hat Knitting Pattern
This traditional two-color pattern is from the North Atlantic seaboard, often found in traditional knit mittens. The compass rose map symbol has been used by mariners for centuries to determine direction and winds. When the cold north winds blow your way, keep warm in this combination of Compass Rose and Sailor's Rib patterning.
The Compass Rose motif is traditionally knit as mittens, and is also known as Fox & Geese and Mattie's Owl Patch. It has been popular for centuries in the North Atlantic knitting community, from Nova Scotia and Maine to Scandinavia. It's stranded color-work was a vivid way to add extra warmth and beauty to hard-working outdoor garments.
In this original design of hat and scarf, variations of Sailor's Rib are combined with Compass Rose color-work for warm and cozy winter wear.

Finished Sizes
The scarf is approximately 8 1/2 to 9 inches wide and 45 inches long
The Hat is sized for Small, Medium and Large, and has a fold-over brim for extra warmth and easy fit.

For DK (Double Knitting) Yarns: 22 stitches and 23 rows = 3 inches in the color pattern
For Worsted Weight Yarns: 18 stitches and 19 rows = 3 inches in the color pattern
